Pile support foundation and structural slab. Structural slab had varying thicknesses from 8” to 16”. Existing utilities had to be surcharged prior to pile installation. Building footprint needed to be over excavated to a depth of 10’ below grade to remove the existing saturated soil/peat and replace it with lightweight aggregate. Ground water was 3’ below grade and the waterway onsite had a tidal influence which required extensive dewatering. Multiple concrete slabs on deck and roof deck.

Nicholson worked with LF Driscoll on the new emergency department at Richmond University Medical Center on Staten Island. We performing excavation of the site, digging utilities, paving, performing concrete work, and building a retaining wall. The new facility is 35,000 square feet and allows the hospital to provide better emergency care thanks to expanded operating suites, enhanced energy infrastructure, trauma bays and specialty areas.

The new 7-story parking garage at Overlook Medical Center is nearing the final phases of construction. When this project began in 2020, Nicholson Corporation was responsible for the removal of over 4,000 cubic yards of rock without blasting. Located in the Watchung mountainside of Summit, NJ, this site included some of the hardest rock in state. Our sitework crew met the challenge by drilling and hammering to get the job done.

A few weeks ago, all 621 precast pieces were carefully hoisted into place. Currently, the garage stands nearly 100 feet tall and will be able to accommodate an additional 650 parking spaces for the hospital.

Our dedicated team is working efficiently to complete the grading and concrete work. Next, the drainage will be completed, along with building the modular block walls, paving, and striping.

As Nicholson delivers this project with accuracy and timeliness, stay tuned for updates of the completion in Spring 2021.

Nicholson Corporation was selected by Holt Construction to complete the sitework, CFMF, concrete, and masonry for the LaGaurdia International Airport American Airlines Hangar 5 Relocation project. In addition to completing the excavation and sitework shown here, we were also selected to install the drywall, acoustical ceilings, millwork, doors and hardware throughout the new hangar. This project will soon be completed.
